It's easy to bring ServSafe AlcoholTM to your organization.
Follow these five simple steps to help put ServSafe Alcohol training and certification to work in your organization.
Step One: Identify training needs.
First, determine the need for training throughout your organization to help ensure responsible alcohol service at every level, across every location. This not only includes servers and bartenders, but also door staff, valets and any other front-of-the-house employees.
Also, training is often mandated by company policy or individual state regulations. Check with your company, and be sure you understand your specific State Regulations, including if your state requires supplemental information.
Step Two: Train Employees.
Based on your organization's needs, determine which method of training will be best for your employees, classroom/in-unit sessions or online training. Only Approved Instructors can teach a class and proctor the written paper-and-pencil exams.
Step Three: Purchase training materials.
Once you have an Approved Instructor, you're ready to order the products necessary for training. Students taking a ServSafe Alcohol class should check with the instructor first to determine whether the Instructor will supply training materials or if you need to purchase materials.
Step Four: Examination and certification.
Instructors can choose to administer either an Advanced (secured) or Primary (non-secured) Certification Exam. For Online Training, training and exams are bundled together, so this choice must be made during purchase.
Advanced Examination
The ServSafe Alcohol Advanced Examination is the industry's only secured responsible alcohol service examination, meaning it has more rigorous standards of examination administration and development. Passing the Advanced Examination confirms that students have mastered the critical knowledge necessary to be capable of providing responsible alcohol service. This paper-and-pencil exam must be administered by an Approved Instructor, or, for the online exam, the test must be administered by an Approved Instructor or by a registered Proctor.
Primary Examination
The ServSafe Alcohol Primary Examination tests for basic responsible alcohol service knowledge. Students that pass the non-secured exam receive a certificate representing that they have studied and are knowledgeable about how to serve alcohol responsible. This paper-and-pencil exam must be administered by an Approved Instructor. No Proctor is necessary for the Primary online exam.
Upon successful completion and passing the exam, examinees will receive their ServSafe Alcohol certification wallet card. The advanced and standard certificates expire either in three years or as local laws stipulate, whichever occurs first. Please note that regulatory requirements or company expiration requirements may apply. You must follow the lesser time frame to maintain your certificate validity.
