Industry Members to Participate in a Variety of Activities to Celebrate this Educational Campaign

CHICAGO - To kick off this year's National Food Safety Education MonthSM, the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation's (NRAEF) International Food Safety Council will have a major presence at this year's North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) Show in New Orleans, Louisiana, September 5-7, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The NRAEF's International Food Safety Council will host an educational seminar, a ServSafe® Training class with certification and engage attendees with hands-on activities and contests pertaining to this year's National Food Safety Education Month theme: "Store it. Don't ignore it," which focuses on proper procedures to storing food safely. The activities will take place in the NRAEF's International Food Safety Council booth, #431.

"The NAFEM Show is the perfect platform to kick off this important food safety campaign," said Mary M. Adolf, president and chief operating officer of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. "NAFEM is a proud sponsor of the NRAEF's International Food Safety Council and we applaud their commitment to food safety for the restaurant and foodservice industry."

"This event helps us reach key distributors and manufacturers with the message that food safety is non-negotiable and must remain top-of-mind in our industry," said John Farquharson, FMP, president of the International Food Safety Council. "Don't forget to visit the NRAEF's International Food Safety Council booth where there will be exciting activities and giveaways related to food safety. Come join us to learn more about food safety while having a great time!"

The NRAEF's involvement begins Friday, September 5, when the NRAEF's International Food Safety Council presents "Untapped Resources - The Value of Partnerships Between Operators and Manufacturers." There will also be a ServSafe all-day training class on Saturday. This is a great opportunity for operators, manufacturers and distributors to obtain food safety education and certification through the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Examination. Throughout the trade show, the NRAEF's International Food Safety Council will have a booth where they will be promoting National Food Safety Education Month with various hands-on activities and contests like "What's Chillin' Where," in which contestants will have two minutes to place food items on the correct shelves in a refrigerator. Along with the activities, there will be an hourly raffle where participants can win FREE food safety education materials.

Created by the NRAEF's International Food Safety Council, the ninth annual, month-long campaign focuses on the importance of food safety education for the restaurant and foodservice industry and raises awareness of the industry's commitment to food safety.
