Q: When is ServSafe Manager Training Online Course, Sixth Edition available?
A: July 27, 2012
 
Q: I’m currently taking the Fifth Edition of the Course; will I need to start over with the Sixth Edition?
A: If you’re already taking or started the Fifth Edition, the update will not impact you at all.  Your Fifth Edition Course will remain in process and you simply need to complete it before its expiration date.
 
Q: How long can I purchase the ServSafe Manager Training Online Course, Fifth Edition?
A: Once the Sixth Edition is available, the Fifth Edition will no longer be available for purchase. Additionally, courses that were purchased as Fifth Edition but have not been started will automatically convert to the new edition.
 
Q: I have several Fifth Edition Courses that I’ve purchased, what will happen to these courses?
A: Courses that were purchased as Fifth Edition but have not been started will automatically convert to the new edition.
 
Q: Is there a way to keep my Courses as Fifth Edition?
A: Once the Sixth Edition is available, all courses not already started will automatically be updated to the Sixth Edition. 
 
Q. When will ServSafe Manager Training Online Course, Sixth Edition, Spanish be ready?
A: ServSafe Manager Online, Sixth Edition (product SSMCT6) is programmed in both English and Spanish. The learner can switch languages through the course.
 

Q:  I just purchased ServSafe Manager Training Online Course, can I change to the new edition?

A: If current users have started the Fifth Edition of the online course, then those users will finish with the Fifth Edition. Any online course, whether it’s an individual course-taker or an Administrator’s, that have not been started will be automatically upgraded to the Sixth Edition online course. 
 

Q:  What is new in the ServSafe Manager Training Online Course, Sixth Edition?

A: To create this new edition, the NRA convened operators and food safety experts from all segments of the industry. This group identified what managers need to know to keep food safe in today’s busy restaurant and foodservice environments. This panel of Subject Matter Experts concluded that attention needs to be focused more intently on the preventative measures that keep food safe. To help managers understand and retain information we have:
  • Optimized Content.   Areas were streamlined to focus on the most critical information. Emphasis on overall prevention in general rather than on specifics. There is now only an emphasis on the “Big 5” pathogens and all other pathogens have been removed.
  • Recalibrated Content.   Areas have been revised to add clarity and improve learner comprehension, from methods for calibrating thermometers to receiving and inspecting requirements.
  • New Content.   Recalls and Cleaning in-place equipment have been added to address today’s needs.
  • Focused Content.   Certain areas were eliminated to focus learner attention on more critical topics such as Training Techniques, Pest Management, Prep Practices and the Inspection Process.
  • Activities, Activities and More Activities.  The best way to learn and retain information is by practicing what is being taught.  The updated course places the learner in real-life situations that allow them to practice what they are learning.
  • Expanded and Updated Post Test.  At the end of the course, the learner will be presented with a practice test, or posttest, that offers the learner more variety and question options. The improved posttest is now presented from a pool of 3 random posttests and appears in the same style and format of the online exam, to help reduce exam anxiety.
  • Based on the new job task analysis and 2011 Supplement to the 2009 FDA Food Code Updates.  The course has been updated to reflect the most up to date Food Code information. Additionally, to create this new edition, the NRA convened operators and food safety experts from all segments of the industry. Q: Is there anything special that needs to be done for Flash Player?
A: Flash Player requirements:
  • The course was built to run in the new Flash Player 10, version 10.2 or beyond. Once the user launches the course, the software will check the Flash version installed in the user's computer.  If it is a version older than 10.2 a message will let the user know the version is not compatible with the Sixth Edition course. This message will include a link to Adobe website where the user can download the latest version of Flash player.  The installation process is free, quick and easy (takes a few seconds to minutes depending on the speed connection).
 
  • For those users that do not have the required version of Flash Player, the course software will help them to install it.  However, some companies may have established security policies that do not allow users to install software in their computers (or do not allow users to access certain websites).  If your computer does not have Flash 10.2 or newer and have security policies in place, contact your local IT administrator for assistance.
