As a ServSafe Alcohol Approved Instructor, you give your students a high-quality education in responsible alcohol service. Developed by the National Restaurant Association and experts who have direct experience of the risks involved in serving alcohol, the ServSafe Alcohol training course covers the trends and risks related to the responsible sale and service of alcohol.

Approved ServSafe Alcohol Instructors are also proctors for online and print ServSafe Alcohol exams.

STEPS TO BECOME A SERVSAFE ALCOHOL APPROVED INSTRUCTOR FOR THE FIRST TIME

STEP 1: TAKE THE SERVSAFE ALCOHOL PRIMARY OR ADVANCED EXAMINATION*

Receive a passing score on the Primary or Advanced exam within three years of applying to become an instructor.

These tips will provide some tips and best practices for conducting in person ServSafe Alcohol classes.

STEP 3: TAKE THE SERVSAFE ALCOHOL INSTRUCTOR ASSESSMENT

To become an Approved ServSafe Alcohol® Instructor, you must pass the ServSafe Alcohol Instructor Assessment. The assessment tests knowledge of the concepts presented in the Training Tips for Instructors.
Take the Assessment

STEP 4: SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

Once you pass the assessment, you will get access to the ServSafe Alcohol Application. Include a nonrefundable application fee of $50, and the mutual nondisclosure and performance agreement form with your application. The ServSafe Alcohol Examination Handbook can be downloaded here.

STEPS TO RENEW YOUR SERVSAFE ALCOHOL APPROVED INSTRUCTOR STATUS

Approved ServSafe Alcohol Instructors need to recertify every three years. Instructors have 90 days from the expiration date of their ServSafe Alcohol Instructor Certification to complete this recertification process.

STEP 1: TAKE THE SERVSAFE ALCOHOL EXAMINATION

You need a current ServSafe Alcohol certification in order to renew your instructor status  Get certified.
If you have not achieved a ServSafe Alcohol certification with a score of 80% within the last three years, you can get it one of two ways:
  -Take the ServSafe Alcohol Online Course and Primary Exam.
  -Attend a ServSafe Alcohol class and take the primary or proctored exam.(Instructors in Maryland and South Carolina must take the proctored exam).

STEP 2: COMPLETE THE SERVSAFE ALCOHOL RECERTIFICATION APPLICATION
